Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes ~ Every Zombie’s Favorite Cupcake
Having a little mini-watch party for my favorite zombie show inspired these Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes, and, dude, are they awesome!
Not only are they full of your usual cupcake yumminess, but, for real, they’re the show stopper for any zombie’s party table.
Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes
Ok, so as you might already be aware, if you know me at all, I’m kind of in love with Sheila.
Now, not like IN LOVE, but like, I really super identify with the, well, human part of Sheila–and I kind of feel like the zombie part is exactly me too.
Is that wrong? I feel like that’s wrong. LOL!
But, in all honesty, Sheila’s like my spirit animal.
We’d be best buds if she was real–and I wouldn’t look down on her special shakes at all, if you know what I mean.
Nope, and I even had a little mini-watch party with a couple of friends who feel the same love for Sheila that I do.
And we ate it UP with these Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes!
They’re so easy, as soon as I knew my friends were coming over for a girls-night-in, I just tossed some cupcakes in the oven…
Everything starts with my favorite easy cupcake recipe.
Then, I whipped-up some fake edible blood, because, you know, that’s fun.
And what kind of zombie-watch-fest does one have without a bloody, gory mess?!
I put like 10 drops of red food coloring in my corn syrup to make the fake blood.
But you could do a lot more.
This was just all that was left in my little container of food coloring.
I decided to make the insides of the cupcakes EXTRA bloody, so I popped their little tops with a decorating tip.
If you haven’t done this before, it’s easy–just kind of push the decorating tip down to your desired depth and then twist a little.
The top will come out with the decorating tip and then you pull it out with your fingertips or shake it out.
I drizzled as much of the fake blood into the little hole as I could get.
Which wasn’t much, honestly, but about a 1/2 teaspoon–but that’s really all you need.
Then I carefully closed the “lid” on my cupcake.
Wouldn’t want ANY of that cake to go to waste–it’s so yummy!
And then I filled my decorating bag with my favorite canned frosting.
Because easy is the name of the game sometimes, and making frosting is fine, but using the canned stuff is just fine too!
Now, I was trying to be funny doing the whole “nice cupcake–blood everywhere” thing.
So I just did my standard cupcake swirl from the outside toward the center and then up into a cone.
I have no idea if this is the “right” way to frost a cupcake, but who cares?!
With all the cupcakes frosted, I decided to bloody it up.
Drizzle is the name of the game here.
Don’t dip, don’t try to drown, just drizzle.
Because you want the blood to be everywhere but not EVERYWHERE.
The effect of the white and the blood looking like it splattered is the fun part…
And, as you can see, I had a LOT of fun. LOL!
I even put some of the fake blood on my hand to make handprints on the table.
Needless to say, my friends were quite impressed with my Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes.
And, frankly, I was too–they’re cute and hilarious!
And, honestly, the VERY best part was that I made this cupcake, the feature of our mini-watch party, in less than 10 minutes, after the cupcakes were baked.
Which is nice, considering this was kind of a last-minute deal.
Ok, so you’re totally down for making these Santa Clarita Diet Cupcakes, but you’re all out of corn syrup.
No worries.
Just pin this recipe to your favorite zombie party ideas board, that way you can find it again when you’re ready to make your own bloody cupcakes.
