Can I just say how terrified I am to have a teen soon?

My oldest is ten and I’ll be honest, I am NOT ready for all the teen things.

More specifically, all the peer pressure from things that teens are currently doing that are dangerous (which seems like there is always something new).

It always seems there is a new dangerous TikTok trend that causes kids to get hurt (or worse).

And now, there is another one to add to the list…

Apparently, teens are throwing “Skittle Parties” and they are not as innocent as they sound.

Unfortunately, no, our kids are not just bringing bags of Skittles over to each other’s houses and sharing.

Nope, this is just a code name.

Instead, ‘Skittles’ actually refer to pills.

The term is Skittling or pharm parties where teens raid medicine cabinets at home for prescription medications.

The pills are then all dumped into a big bowl (which looks like a bowl of Skittles) and kids can then take whatever they want and how many they want to get high.

Oh, and if you think these aren’t happening because they aren’t happening in your house, think again.

These Skittle Parties are happening in places like people’s homes, backyards, parks, abandoned buildings, hotel rooms and who knows where else.

This is SO DANGEROUS.

Not only is mixing pills dangerous and potentially lethal, kids have no idea what they are taking or how it will affect them which makes treating them if something were to happen, that much harder.

The National Institute On Drug Abuse reported that young adults aged 18 to 25 have the highest rate of abuse of prescription medication and there has also been reported use in kids as young as 12.

Sure, none of this may be new to us and decades ago, apparently this was a thing and these were called a “fruit salad”.

To be honest, I never heard of this until now. Even as a kid, none of the people I knew were doing stuff like this.

So, to find this out now, scares me so much!

The best thing we can do as parents is talk to our kids.

Let them know this is dangerous in every way and they should never participate in these scary and life-threatening trends.

  1. no one is doing “skittles parties”, they just take the drugs. stop sensationalizing this stupid garbage, youre not doing anyone a favor

  2. Referring to the skittle parties, I would have to say that the best place to start would have to be to lock the medicine cabinet or putting the tablets somewhere where the kids can’t find them . They shouldn’t be in plain sight anyway.
