It’s been years since a remember Facebook or Instagram being down for more than an hour but yesterday, the entire world went into panic as Facebook and Instagram were down for hours.

The outage started early yesterday morning when many users were receiving error messages while trying to login in, get into groups and even access pages.

When I tried to login yesterday, I got this message:

Not something I particular like to see when I am trying to get in my morning news with my cup of coffee.

But it happened.

21 of the longest hours of my life.

Around the world people were left to fend for themselves. Having to communicate with the outside world like our ancestors did and resort back to our primitive ways.

Yesterday was a scary, scary day.

I mean, I actually went grocery shopping, did some laundry, and even shoveled mounds of snow in my driveway.

Do you see what Facebook and Instagram being down does to people?

Not to mention, Snapchat was down too!

Yes, I am being overly dramatic and sarcastic.

In all seriousness, some people found this to be such a crisis, they were calling their local authorities for help.

Yes, you read that right. People were calling 9-1-1 due to the Facebook and Instagram outage.

I wish I was kidding.

#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don’t call us about it being down, we don’t know when FB will be back up!”

tweeted @LASDBrink, aka Sgt. Burton Brink, on Friday morning,

If you think that’s a crazy reason to call 9-1-1 you should know that residents of a Connecticut town called 911 when a cable outage interrupted viewing of the popular TV show “Breaking Bad.”

The LAPD also estimates that 70% of calls to 911 this year have been non-emergency calls, including a man who called to complain that he hadn’t gotten cheese on his hamburger.

People! STOP IT!

Social media being down is NOT an emergency.

Keep doing it and we’re going to be forced to take away your social media privileges!

Say it with me: “9-1-1 is for EMERGENCIES only”.
