There Is A Sriracha Shortage and I Think I’ll Just Go Cry Now
When I say HOT SAUCE there is probably one sauce everyone thinks of right off the bat… Sriracha.
I don’t care who you are, Sriracha has become the Golden Standard hot sauce to use on — well, everything.
Do you remember back in 2017 when the company that makes Sriracha split, and everyone was panicking about Sriracha disappearing from shelves forever?
That was a dark time to be a foodie.
The shelves were Sriracha bare, and the grocery stores were full of sad faces.
Well, don’t panic, but the shelves are about to be Sriracha bare again.
What?!?
We are already having to endure shortages of things like Baby Formula, Sugar, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, Cheese, Peanut Butter Products, and lest we forget, the Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020.
Now, probably in part due to those damn supply chain issues that are plaguing the world, we are in a Sriracha shortage.
I’m shook in a majorly disappointed kind of way.
Why Is There A Sriracha Shortage?
You might want to sit down for this.
Very recently, a letter was leaked to the internet from Huy Fong Foods, Inc, the company that manufactures Sriracha.
This letter, which was dated April 19, 2022, spoke of an impending shortage of Sriracha sauce.
They mentioned that there is “a shortage of chili pepper inventory,” and this shortage has been going on since July of 2020.
But, the situation seems to have only gotten worse since 2020.

severe shortage of chili.
Seriously, can things get any worse right now? Maybe I shouldn’t put that question out into the universe. I don’t want to give the universe an excuse for dishing up more crappy situations.
Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient we are unable to produce any of our products (Chili Garlic, Sambal Oelek, and Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce).

The company is diligently working to try to combat this spiraling situation.
Hung Fong unfortunately has been plagued with “unexpected crop failure from the spring chili harvest.”
Without these chili peppers, there is no Sriracha.
According to the letter that was found from Huy Fong Foods, they expect that the problem will persist until after Labor Day.
That’s in September. No Sriracha until September?!?
You better get to the grocery store and stock up while you can!
