This School Has Banned Cell Phones During School Hours
This the article teens everywhere don’t want you to read.
A school in Anchorage, Alaska has banned the use of cell phones during school hours, and SURPRISE, students are doing better in school!
Lumen Christi Catholic High School, in Anchorage, Alaksa, announced to their students that they would no longer be allowed to carry cell phones during school hours. This ban is in effect for all high school and middle school students.
Each student drops off their cell phone with their first-period teacher, who keeps them nice and safe until the students return at the end of the day.
Students were confused and upset by the news when it was first announced. They didn’t understand why such a ban had to be implemented. The students believed they were doing just as much work with the cell phones still in their possession.
The teachers and principal new otherwise, however. The constant buzzing of the cell phone was disruptive to the class and the individual student.
After some time had gone by with the ban, the students soon realized it was okay. They were more engaged with their classes, and the students even ENJOYED their learning time.
More information could be learned in a shorter amount of time, thanks to not having the cell phones in class.
Being forced to interact with each other face-to-face had a positive outcome as well. Students appeared happier and even more interactive with one another.
In case you are worried, the students still have access to a phone in case of an emergency. They just have to do it the OLD way, and use the school phone. Students ARE allowed access to their phones in very rare cases, but for the most part, NO CELL PHONES.
The ban seems to have had a positive affect on students and teachers alike!
