Purell Hand Sanitizer is Facing Class-Action Lawsuits. Here’s What You Need To Know
Yikes, at a time when everyone has bought out every single bit of hand sanitizer, including Purell? GOJO (the maker of Purell) is facing not just 1, but 2 class-action lawsuits. The accusation is “misleading claims”.
So we all know that Purell’s label says that it kills “99.9% of illness-causing germs”. That makes you think that it would have some sort of scientific testing to back it up right? I mean to make that claim you need proof?
The lawsuits say that it is misleading because it does imply that there would be sound scientific testing to support that claim. But guess what…there isn’t!
These claims lack a scientific basis, rendering the affirmative misrepresentations misleading,

There is also a class-action lawsuit that is filed by different plaintiffs, also in the same federal court. The suit states that the manufacturer has “broken the public’s trust”. This refers to marketing claims that are unsubstantiated.
Earlier this year, U.S. FDA sent a letter to the maker of Purell warning GOJO against making claims about the effectiveness of the products.
The FDA noted the advertising campaigns that imply that Purell could prevent the flu, ebola, norovirus, and other diseases. The warning letter is dated January 17, 2020.
However, FDA is currently not aware of any adequate and well-controlled studies demonstrating that killing or decreasing the number of bacteria or viruses on the skin by a certain magnitude produces a corresponding clinical reduction in infection or disease caused by such bacteria or virus
